Lance Cpl. Cody R. Stanley, USMC
Nov 06 2009
Temporary Image
Lance Cpl. Cody Robert Stanley, USMC, 21, of Rosanky, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan, while serving his Country. He was born on Dec. 17, 1987 to Bob and Wendi Stanley in San Marcos, Texas.

Cody was preceded in death by his grandfather Larry Stanley, Sr.

He is survived by his parents; brother, Cade Stanley; grandparents, Anne Stanley, and David and Kitty Braley, all of Lockhart; great-grandmother, Lela Miles, of Franklin, Texas; aunts and uncles: Larry and Kathy Stanley, of Lockhart, David and Stephanie Braley, of Bastrop, James and Sarah Stanley, of New Braunfels, and Colin and Kimberly Braley, of Lockhart; and cousins: Maggie, Trace, Dallas, Cameron, Evan, Rylee, Christy, Cassi, Anthony, Jacqueline and Zachary. He was also blessed with numerous extended family and friends.

Cody, Cade, Bob and Wendi resided in Rosanky on the Double D Ranch for 18 years. It was in that awesome setting that Cody and Cade were raised into the fine young men they are today. Cody and Cade became the best of friends as well as brothers. They did all of the things that country boys love to do, including fishing, hunting, riding four-wheelers, chasing girls and drinking beer.

Cody decided to join the Marine Corps early in his senior year of high school. His parents initially told him that he could not join. Cody worked on them his entire senior year. When they realized how strongly he felt and how committed he was, they finally gave him their permission and support.

He left for boot camp in October 2006 and was deployed to Iraq from February-September of 2008. He was home in September 2009 for his pre-deployment leave for the Afghanistan deployment. While he was home, he spent time with family and friends. When he left for Twentynine Palms, everyone’s hearts were full. Cody sacrificed his life for our country and died while doing his job. His family is so very proud of his courage, bravery and honor.

The family received friends from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Smithville with Rev. Mike Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at Clarks Chapel Cemetery in Lockhart with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First-Lockhart National Bank, 111 S. Main Street, Lockhart, Texas 78644, account: Cody Stanley, Lance Cpl., USMC for Wounded Warriors.

Arrangements under the care and guidance of McCurdy Funeral Home, 105 E. Pecan, Lockhart, Texas 78644. (512) 398-4791. Please visit and sign guest book at www.mccurdyfuneral-home.com
